A Rich History

Cattlemen's Days
President For
2010

Welcome to the 110th anniversary of the granddaddy of Colorado rodeos. Throughout the years the rodeo withstood a variety of locations from Tomichi & Main, to the open space below Taylor Hall on the WSC campus. For the last 50 years Cattlemen's Days is proud to call the Fred R. Field Western Heritage Center and rodeo grounds home. This unique location easily accommodates spectators and contestants, putting all within walking distance of retail shops, restaurants, parks, and recreation facilities.

In the spirit of our valley heritage, volunteers old and new work year round to put on one of the most respected professional rodeos in the nation.  American Cowboy magazine recognized Cattlemen's Days as one of "THE TOP 101 WESTERN EVENTS" in the country for 2010.

Years ago Gunnison Valley cattlemen offered their ranches as

collateral to put on this event because of their belief in preserving the history and tradition of the valley and its future.
Cattlemen's Days annually unites the valley with the belief that its history be celebrated.  Cattlemen's Days is the 6th oldest rodeo in the nation and the oldest in Colorado.

The excitement this year begins with Troy Lerwell as our specialty act and barrel man: 6-time PRCA Comedy Act of the Year, 3-time NFR barrel man, 2 time Coors Man In The Can.  Troy's high speed, high flying motorcycle act is a fan favorite worldwide. Stock contractor "Stace Smith Pro Rodeo", the best in the business, winning his sixth straight PRCA stock contractor of the year award will furnish the livestock for the PRCA's finest cowboys participating in Cattlemen's Days 2010 rodeos.

In the sprit of Gunnison's western history we all hope you will make yourself comfortable and enjoy the exhibits and events. Please take some time to support the open horse show, 4-H exhibits, livestock auction and parade. Take in the team roping; barrel racing and the improved carnival. Walk around the rodeo grounds, say hi to the cowboys and cowgirls, your neighbors or a smiling face and experience being part of the heritage and history of Cattlemen's Days.

Be our guest to experience the real thing. Let 'em Buck!
